HELDERBERG QUILT BARN TRAIL GUIDELINES
Picture

Helderberg Quilt Barn Trail (HQBT) is a driving trail to view barn quilts in the Helderberg Hilltowns of Berne, Knox, Rensselaerville, and Westerlo in western Albany County, New York. HQBT is organized by a committee of volunteers. We do not receive financial support from the towns.

Our purpose is to help beautify the Hilltowns through an appreciation of our rural architecture and shared history of quilts. Please visit our website at http://www.hqbt.org/ to see the barn quilts on our trail.

In order to encourage all Hilltowners to consider becoming part of our trail, we’ve kept our list of guidelines brief. We encourage originality in barn quilt design while following our guidelines.

GUIDELINES FOR HELDERBERG QUILT BARN TRAIL

1) The barn quilt must be located in Berne, Knox, Rensselaerville, or Westerlo.

2) The barn quilt must be a separate piece attached to a barn, shed, house, garage, business, post, or similar location.

3) The barn quilt must be visible from a public road.

4) The barn quilt must be a minimum of nine (9) square feet.

5) The barn quilt must be made of durable, exterior materials and exterior paint (recommended: three {3} coats of paint for each color)

6) The barn quilt must have a family-friendly theme and design.

7) The barn quilt must have elements of traditional quilt design (ex. borders).

8) The barn quilt should avoid copyrighted materials.

9) The barn quilt should not contain wording, to avoid becoming a sign that is regulated by municipal ordinances.

10) The barn quilt belongs to the owner, who is responsible for maintaining its appearance.

11) Helderberg Quilt Barn trail will use photographs of the barn quilt and its address on the HQBT website, HQBT Facebook page, and HQBT’s trail guide map.

12) The owner agrees to hold harmless Helderberg Quilt Barn Trail, its officers, and its committee for and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, and causes of action related to the quilt barn trail.

Please complete the application information and submit it to the committee, which makes the final decision for inclusion on the trail. If you are considering creating or purchasing a barn quilt, please feel free to contact HQBT through Vicki Vattimo  at vsquared38@hotmail.com to discuss your ideas.
